Materials & Care
Each piece of VLDR Jewellery is made with love, care, and thoughtfully chosen materials. Below is a guide to the materials I use, and how to look after your jewellery so it continues to bring you joy for years to come.
Pearls
I use freshwater pearls, which are natural gemstones with their own unique character. Their shapes can be irregular, and some may have tiny surface imperfections — this is completely natural and part of their charm. I always do my best to select the most beautiful pearls for every piece.
Care Tips:
- Pearls are delicate and should be kept away from perfumes, lotions, and other chemicals.
- Put your pearl jewellery on last when getting ready.
- Store them in a soft pouch or separate from other pieces to avoid scratches.
Sterling Silver
Sterling silver is made from 92.5% pure silver and is known for its beautiful shine. It’s a strong, timeless material that I love using in my designs.
Care Tips:
- Silver can tarnish over time, especially when exposed to air and moisture. A gentle polish with a soft cloth will bring it back to life.
- Avoid contact with water, perfumes, and cleaning products.
- Store it in a dry, cool place — ideally in an airtight bag or box.
Gold Vermeil
Gold vermeil is a thick layer of 18k or 24k gold plated over sterling silver. It offers the richness of gold without the full price of solid gold, and is one of my favourite ways to create luxurious, long-lasting pieces.
Care Tips:
- To keep the gold layer looking its best, avoid water, sweat, and sprays.
- Wipe gently with a dry, soft cloth. No harsh polishing.
- Store carefully to avoid rubbing against other jewellery.
14k Gold Filled
Gold filled jewellery has a thick layer of 14k gold bonded to a base metal (usually brass). It’s much more durable than standard gold plating, making it perfect for everyday wear.
Care Tips:
- Clean with warm, soapy water and dry thoroughly.
- Keep away from pools, sweat, and chemicals to prolong the finish.
- Store separately to avoid scratches or tangling.
Solid Gold- 9k & 18k
For bespoke or custom orders, I also work with solid 9k and 18k gold. These pieces are crafted to last a lifetime and beyond, making them perfect for meaningful gifts, heirlooms, or one-of-a-kind treasures. If you’re interested in creating something unique in solid gold, I’d love to hear from you.
Care Tips:
- Solid gold is the most durable option, but still benefits from gentle care.
- Clean with a soft cloth or mild soapy water.
- Avoid abrasive materials and store with care to maintain its shine.
General Care
Each piece comes with a care guide, and I really recommend following it to get the most out of your jewellery.
- Remove jewellery before sleeping, showering, or exercising.
- Keep pieces dry and avoid contact with perfumes and creams.
- Store in a dry, safe spot — ideally in a soft pouch or box.
